Mayor-President Monique Boulet has announced the new director for Lafayette Parish’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

The administration appointed Christopher D. Hebert to helm the department, according to a Lafayette Consolidated Government announcement. Former Scott Fire Department Chief Chad Sonnier previously held the position and stepped down after accepting an appointment by Gov. Jeff Landry to serve as Louisiana State Fire Marshal in early August.

Christina Dayries, Boulet’s chief of staff, took over as interim director during the search.

Hebert served in the Louisiana National Guard for 26 years, including three overseas deployments, during which he worked as a Top Secret security-cleared intelligence analyst and an infantry operations non-commissioned officer.

Hebert supported multiple federal disaster responses throughout the state. His service earned him two Bronze Stars and the Legion of Merit.

Hebert has a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts from the United States Sergeants Major Academy, where he graduated summa cum laude.

“I am honored to serve Lafayette as Director of OHSEP,” writes Hebert. “I am committed to not only serving the people of our parish, but utilizing all of the tools I’ve gathered over the years to make sure Lafayette Parish is prepared and confident to handle emergency situations before they take place.”
